Voltaire war ein Freundschaftspfleger. Brieffreundschaften gingen gern einmal über Jahrzehnte, 14 Jahre lang haben er und Friedrich der II. König von Preussen ihre Freundschaft in Briefen geführt und sich am Ende völlig zerstritten. Mit der verheirateten Émilie du Châtelet führte er über 15 Jahre eine offene Beziehung. Sie starb im Kindbett, geschwängert von einer flüchtigen Liebschaft, während Voltaire ihr zur Seite stand und dafür den König der Preußen in Schloß Sans Soucis warten ließ. Für das Zeitalter der Aufklärung war dieses Verhältnis unschicklich, aber auch eine weit verbreitete Variante der Lebensgestaltung des Adels und der Bourgeoisie. Die meisten wurden aus wirtschaftlichen Überlegungen zwangsverheiratet. Hat sich das Verhältnis zu Freundschaft und Liebe mehr als 200 Jahre nach seinem Tod verändert? Leben wir nach sexueller Revolution und Aufklärung anders? Diese und andere Fragen haben wir versucht in der dritten Ausgabe des Voltaire-Magazins zu beantworten.
Albino – In the shadow of the sun
The believing in witchcraft has cursed a small part of the population of Tanzania, Africa. The legend tells that a limb from the body of an albino gives luck to the miner who enters the goldmine. Due to the widespread folklore albinos, mostly children, are murdered and their body parts sold to superstitious businessmen. Above that, they live in a country that is ruled by the sun. Skin cancer is a common cause of death among the albinos. These circumstances, and the fact that their skin colour differs from the norm, the albino population are doomed to a life in solitude. In the midst of the tragedy there are also laughter and spirit of hope. The albino people in Tanzania are organizing. The are refusing to let the murderers continue unnoticed.
